Year 10 Pupils Explore Higher Education at the University of Sunderland
Back
As part of our Careers Programme, Year 10 pupils recently spent the day at the University of Sunderland, gaining a valuable insight into what higher education is really like.
The visit began at school, where pupils met in the main assembly hall before travelling together to the University via the Metro, accompanied by student ambassadors who supported them throughout the journey. This provided an early opportunity for pupils to ask questions and begin engaging with University life.
On arrival at the campus, pupils were welcomed by University staff and took part in an introductory session, including a talk on student finance and the benefits of higher education. Throughout the day, pupils rotated through a series of interactive workshops, including sessions on student life, common misconceptions about University and a guided campus tour.
These activities gave pupils a well-rounded experience, allowing them to explore the academic, social and practical aspects of University life. The opportunity to move between sessions and engage directly with current students helped to build confidence and deepen understanding of the pathways available beyond Year 11.
The visit concluded with a reflective evaluation session, encouraging pupils to consider what they had learnt and how it may influence their future decisions.
Experiences like this play an important role in helping students make informed and confident choices about their next steps and Year 10 approached the day with enthusiasm and maturity throughout.
Our thanks go to the University of Sunderland for hosting such an informative and engaging visit.
